Our Worship Today: March 22, 2020

Gathering:

Opening Silent Prayer (5-10 minutes): Sit quietly, close your eyes, and begin by being intentional about your breathing. (for example take a breath in for a count of 3, hold the inhale for 3, exhale for a count of 3, and hold the exhale for a count of 3. You can extend the breathing cycle 4 seconds, 5 seconds, etc. This will help you slow your breathing, and quiet your spirit.

Sacred Song: Watch: Casting Crowns—The Well Live (You-Tube link below)

Opening the Scripture: (read one or all four)

1 Samuel 16: 1-13 (God Anoints David)

Psalm 23 (The Lord is My Shepherd)

Ephesians 5: 8-14 (The Light)

John 9: 1-41 (Jesus Cures a Blind Man)

Personal Reflection on One Scripture: (pick one to reflect on)

Start by reading the scripture a few more times.  Begin to contemplate the reading you chose.

Perhaps you write down your responses. Some questions you might bring to the text may be:

a.      What thoughts, words, or images came to your mind?

b.     What did the scripture mean to you?  What was your initial reaction to the reading?

c.      Were you challenged by the scripture in some way?

d.     How does the scripture speak to what you are going through today?

e.      How would you relate what you have learned to another person (witness)?

Sacred Song: Watch: Amazing Grace: My Chains are Gone by Chris Tomlin (Link Below)

Prayer for others and the world

Closing Silent Prayer (5-10 minutes)

After Consultation with church leadership, we have decided to
SUSPEND WORSHIP SERVICES for March 15 (tomorrow), March 22nd, and if needed March 29th.

Our goal would be to have Worship start up again on April 5 (Palm Sunday).

We feel that due to the CDC recommendationson the Corona Virus, and the decisions by many organizations to cancel large public gatherings, we will be proactive in keeping all of our church members safe.

Both the West Kennebunk and the Goodwins Mills UMC will Suspend services for the above dates.  We will monitor the situation closely day by day, until this event is over.

When the Israelites were in the desert, and when the Israelites faced exile in Babylon, they became a faith community in the DIASPORA.
Diaspora is a word used to describe a faith community that is physically separated from their house of worship, temple, land of origin, or their religious centers.
We find ourselves as the churches in West Kennebunk and Lyman, being people of the diaspora.

Our challenge is to find creative ways to stay in community, while we ride this pandemic out.

Some ways to do this:

1. Pray for one another
2. Call each other to check in, or send an email.
3. Please contact Terry if you want a copy of Rich Church Poor Church book.  You could read it as individuals.  Later in April (the 29th) we will be doing a group study on this book.
4. Take advantage of online resources.  I am currently working to send you a video for tomorrow (more to come on that).  Resources such as You Tube sermons, or yes even TV preachers or services. (TD Jakes is a good TV preacher).
5. Write a note or letter to a church member telling them what they mean to you.
6. Engage in daily Bible study.  I recommend starting by reading the book of John.
7. Sending me Prayer requests, so I can send them out to my church wide email lists.

During this time, please let me know (401-525-6866) if you are in the hospital, or going through other procedures.  By in large I will be in contact via phone calls.  This is in an effort to not carry anything from one person to another.

I believe that this situation will work to make us closer as a community.  Please call me with any questions.

May God bless us in this time.

Peace and Blessings,

Rev. Ed
